Our Vision

Youth Action Network's vision is for all young people to have the opportunity to participate in Youth Action volunteering and develop their own solutions to community needs.

About us

Youth Action Network is the national organisation with unique experience and expertise in the Youth Action approach to volunteering. We offer specialist support to organisations looking to give young people more choice and more control in their volunteering. We have a range of products and services all aimed at increasing the opportunities available to young people to drive their own ideas forward.

We want organisations to know how to support young people to develop their own volunteering projects. We also want to ensure that the experience organisations and young people gain by working together, and the issues they face, are communicated and listened to at a national level.

Our projects

The Stream is our online e-mentoring project bringing together workers and young people to provide support and motivation, address issues and inspire creativity in Youth Action; log on, find a mentor and share your experiences with someone who really gets it.

In order to also recognise the role that a Worker can play in supporting young people to get their ideas off the ground, this year, we have added a special Workers' category!

All winners will receive personalised certificates and trophies. Winners of the Young People's Award will get cash towards their project, while winners of the Workers' Awards will receive a voucher towards a Red Letter Day Experience.

Closing date for entries is Friday 7 December 2007.

Jack Scott
Youth Action Network

Jack Scott is the Chair of Youth Action Network's Trustee Board, and at 21 years old, he is also our youngest ever Trustee!  He began volunteering with Millennium Volunteers several years ago and has continued to make remarkable achievements ever since, including joining the Samaritans at the age of 17 as their youngest listening volunteer in 50 years! Despite being in his final year of a Politics degree at the University of Sheffield, Jack still finds time to volunteer, because of the benefits it brings. He is passionate about Youth Action and what it represents...

" There are more opportunities available to young people to get involved in volunteering now than ever before - the hardest thing I found was trying to decide what and who I wanted to volunteer my time for.  This took some real soul searching for me. Eventually I decided to get involved in political volunteering and since then, it seems my feet have hardly touched the ground. I chose this type of volunteering because I'm passionate about getting opinions and voices heard. Youth Action is similar to politics in this way. It provides so many opportunities for young people to get more involved and have their say at higher and higher levels, to a point where they can make real change.

There is such a diverse range of opportunities available that there really is something for everyone.  My volunteering experience has had a great impact on many areas of my life and work, such as getting involved with Youth Action Network.

There has never been a better time for young people to engage in volunteering. It is now, not only much easier for young people to find out about volunteering, but with Youth Action high on the government agenda, more and more organisations are now committed to focusing on priorities that young people have identified themselves.  It is great news that they are coming around to our way of thinking. Young people are the future, so it makes sense to listen to their views and hear what they have to say. After all, these are the people who can make longer-term change happen.

This is what Youth Action is all about... supporting young people to put their ideas into action!

We hope you find our Annual Report both interesting and exciting and feel inspired to help us achieve our vision - for all young people to have the opportunity to get involved in Youth Action and develop their own solutions to community needs..."
