Teach First transforms outstanding graduates into inspiring leaders, ready to excel in any management career.

Combining intensive teacher training and experience in challenging Greater Manchester, London or Midlands secondary schools with an innovative leadership and management skills programme, Teach First is a unique opportunity for you to be different, and to make a difference.

High-profile recruiters from all sectors value the skills and strategies employed in teaching. That's why over 80 companies, government agencies and public bodies are backing Teach First to develop the leaders of tomorrow.

Teach First recruits high-calibre graduates from all disciplines to train and qualify as teachers. You will contribute to the extracurricular life of your school, and participate in courses in strategy, marketing and finance, and skills master classes. You will also attend regular networking events with industry leaders and benefit from the support of an experienced network of advisers and coaches.

Teach First’s demanding two-year programme puts high-calibre graduates into challenging London, Midlands and North West secondary schools to train, qualify and work as teachers.

Through your creativity, relentless optimism, energy and intelligence you will have a real impact in schools where young people are struggling to fulfil their potential.

Teach First, which is a registered charity, recruits outstanding people to take part in an exceptional scheme. There’s no doubt it’s a great opportunity, but it’s also a substantial challenge. You’ll be spending at least 80% of your time teaching real lessons to real students, and dealing with the all too real issues facing young people who, for a variety of reasons, feel the system is letting them down.

The programme is vigorously supported by over 80 leading employers spanning every sector. They recognise that the skills and experience gained through teaching have direct relevance and transferability to management careers.

Engaging attention and inspiring endeavour, organising information and prioritising tasks, and creating effective working teams – these skills are at the heart of teaching, and they are the foundations of effective management.

Put simply, if you can engage a class of 30 teenagers and get them working constructively, then you can manage any team in any sector.

Studied Maths at Cambridge University before joining Teach First. He is now a senior analyst JPMorgan’s Fixed Income division.

For me the Teach First idea of taking your subject skills and doing something really positive with them while also building bridges for another career was very powerful. I liked the idea of making a difference through teaching and what was especially attractive about Teach First was the opportunity to just get straight into it – I would never have done a PGCE year so the challenge of the steep learning curve on Teach First really appealed to me.

Teach First taught me a lot about myself and helped me to focus in on what I really wanted to achieve. Perhaps I didn’t change the world but I did have a real impact on some people, and I had a great time and made some great friends. There’s a fantastic esprit de corps on the programme and, when it all comes together with a class you can have a lot of fun.’
