Why GVI?

Global Vision International (GVI) is an ethical volunteering organisation working in partnership with over 150 critical conservation and humanitarian projects worldwide.

We offer projects that make a GENUINE in-country difference. We only work on long-term sustainable projects, set up in conjunction with local organisations. We also think it’s important that all benefits of the project remain in-country. So we don’t try to take ownership of research data. And we train nationals for free in the skills we teach our volunteers. We promote sustainable development through environment research, conservation and education.

In 2006, 78% of volunteer contributions were spent directly in field. To find out more about how GVI is different, call us or email us any time.

What can I do?

GVI offers volunteer placements on expeditions, projects and courses in over 30 countries worldwide.

When can I go?

Because GVI runs long-term projects, there is opportunity to volunteer all year-round, for different durations. Project lengths vary from a week to a year in duration.

Who is eligible to volunteer?

We think that it is important to offer opportunities for all, whether you are retired, taking a career-break, or on a gap year before or after University. Full training is supplied on all of our projects if you pass the application process demonstrating interest and awareness of cultural sensitivities. In 2006 we took away over 2,000 volunteers, from 29 countries, aged between 18-78.

What support do I get?

Before you go: application process and support from your local office. Resources including field packs, training manuals, kit-lists. Online forum to meet other volunteers. Partner offers on flights, insurance, guidebooks and clothing.

In country: overseas in-country coordinators. 24-hour manned phoneline. Airport pickup, airport drop off, and in-country orientation. Much more besides – see our website for details of exactly what’s included on each project.

Can I work for GVI?

All ten-week expedition members are eligible for an internship, to stay on for a further research phase free of charge. For details on careers with GVI, including paid fieldwork roles, visit www.careersabroad.co.uk

GVI’s commitment to its volunteers:

  • Safe responsible travel experiences
  • Exceptional training
  • Career development opportunities
  • Make a real difference on real projects, set up by local people, with local aims.

Weekend Tefl Course In The Uk
by Mark Stapleton, Accrington

"I am writing to let you know about the fabulous weekend I had on one of your Intensive TEFL Courses. Not only did I learn a great deal about myself and learnt a lot about how great TEFL teaching really is. I made a lot of great friends a lot of whom I will probably keep in touch with. The whole weekend was endless fun, not like being on a course at all, and went by ever so fast. Overall, it was the best thing I have ever done and has given me more confidence for my future career as a TEFL teacher.

I learned so much in one weekend and came away very high in spirit, convinced that I am capable of becoming a very good teacher, something I never thought I could do. The team spirit was amazing as everyone had to learn really quickly to open up and start supporting each other, a truly amazing bonding of like minds and a new and refreshing experience for myself and I think everyone present."
