He is the author of four books, including Write for Charity: How to write effectively for your charity’s marketing, publications and website.

How you will learn

This unique coaching programme offers you an opportunity to learn from experts, but also from your peers working in other charities. We will work together to improve everyone’s knowledge and skills, working on your actual materials in a supportive and positive atmosphere. You’ll continually improve your skills, putting what you learn into practice in your day-to-day work.

Group coaching days
You’ll join a small group of fellow charity professionals at four training and coaching days. While the training element will be based around that month’s key theme, much of the content will be tailored to the group’s participants. You’ll share your own experiences and ideas, provide feedback on other’s material and receive constructive criticism on your own. You’ll carry out group exercises, set goals and report back as you develop your skills and knowledge over the life of the course. Your coaching colleagues will also keep in touch via an exclusive online LinkedIn group, where you can share documents and ideas inbetween coaching days.

One-to-one coaching
A limited number of participants have the opportunity to receive monthly one hour personal feedback sessions on your materials. Gideon Burrows will offer an honest expert critique of your writing, materials, strategy, goals and more, working with you over the course of the programme to develop and improve. You’ll get expert advice and support tailored to your needs, working on your weaknesses. Sessions are by telephone and you’ll receive an audio recording of every session to review and share with your team.

“If we could bottle what Gideon has, we would all be masters at marketing! His enthusiasm was infectious and his ideas do-able. Very useful tips on how to persist with marketing (and why we often fail).”
Seminar attendee

“Very useful insights from an experienced marketing professional on how we can market our services better. I have an 8 point plan ready to start on Monday!”
Maddy Pitcher, Voluntary Sector Training

“Arrived feeling a distinct lack of knowledge about copywriting and marketing. Leaving feeling ready to rewrite some training and marketing materials.”
Marissa Charles, NCVO

“I’m amazed at the way the learning has stayed with each member of our team, and the simple but practical tools have become part of the everyday. Gideon took time to understand our organisation and used relevant examples. Crucially, he helped us see our written communications through fresh eyes. Our writing is now much more considered, not just in terms of audience and message, but how to catch people’s imagination and to inspire action.”
Corinne Evans, British Red Cross

“I arrived thinking I could already write clearly and informatively, so was happily surprised to learn lots of tricks to improve my style.”
Anna Barford, Equality Trust

Not sure?

I can’t make all the group coaching days
You can send a colleague in your place. Plus you can get the lowdown on what happened from others who attended through your group’s exclusive LinkedIn network. We’ll also post any slides and handouts there.

I don’t have the time
We know time constraints are one of the biggest challenges for charity communicators, so we’ve designed the programme to actually save you time. This is a learn-while-you-work training programme; you’ll work on and perfect your techniques using your own materials, and we’ll provide forms and templates to help you do that effectively. The coaching days and one-to-one sessions are geared towards helping you prioritise, plan and deal with competing demands for your time and skills. Plus, you’ll receive a special advice factsheet in your welcome pack: Time Management for Charity Communicators: How to save your time and sanity through better planning, prioritising and learning to say ‘no’.

I’m worried about my budget
This programme is geared towards helping you to achieve concrete goals in less time, without big spending on marketing. You’ll earn many times the value of the course in increased income and impact, as well as stopping broken writing and marketing techniques that, right now, are costing your charity a fortune. Plus, if you register NOW you’ll secure your place at Spring 2012 prices and beat the Autumn 2012 price rise.

My manager needs convincing
If there is one commitment to training that you and your manager should make in the next 12 months, it should be this one. You can attend all the sessions yourself, or any member of your team can come in your place. That offers a cross-team training for a fraction of the cost it would be to send each of you on a separate course. Plus, you’ll get your free factsheet on sharing your learning with your colleagues, ensuring every £ spent goes further.

It feels like a big commitment
It is. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and you and your team can’t radically improve your charity’s writing and marketing skills overnight. We’re asking you to commit to improving you and your team’s writing and marketing skills in a way that will ensure they are powerful, effective and soon become second nature. If you’re looking for a quick fix, this programme isn’t it. If you’re looking for training and coaching that will work for you, in both the short and long term, then register for your place now.

I’m still not sure
ngo.media remains (to our knowledge) the only charity sector training provider that offers a full money-back guarantee on all of its training. You can try out this programme with no risk to you. Register now and join the programme. If after the first month you do not believe this programme is going to work for you, then cancel your membership and receive a full refund. No questions, no quibbles.
