Teaching
Is teaching an ethical career?
Becoming a teacher is a great way to inspire and encourage young people to get involved with social and environmental issues. Young people today are the decision-makers of the future and by teaching you are really making sure that global issues are central on their agenda. With citizenship now being part of the UK curriculum, there are many ways in which you can encourage your students to take action on important issues.
People & Planet, for example, runs workshops for sixth form students to raise their awareness of Fairtrade and other important issues. Teachers play a crucial role in helping to promote these workshops and encouraging their students to get even more involved.
A teaching qualification is also a great route into a range of other ethical careers, including development education, teaching overseas and educational roles at places like the Eden Project. Being a teacher has also never been easier with many financial incentives and bursaries on offer to help you whilst you train. To find out more about getting into teaching, visit www.tda.gov.uk
