About us

The CHARITY COMMUNICATIONS conference is the result of a unique partnership of organisations which aim to deliver together an event that is both 'of' and 'for' the charity and campaigning sectors.

It is YOUR conference!

The following partners are working hard to deliver an event that meets your needs. We all look forward to hearing your thoughts on the programme, either directly or via the talkboard.

askCHARITY

Run by CharityComms, askCHARITY is a free online service aimed at supporting not-for-profit organisations in their work with the media. Services include:

Answer Service

Our Answer Service allows journalists to send requests for case studies to hundreds of charities’ inboxes at a time. On average there are 10 requests per day offering opportunities for charities to make contacts and get coverage. Requests come from a wide variety of media outlets – from the Today programme to Cosmopolitan.

Online directory

askCHARITY’s online directory helps journalists contact charities. Charities register a description of their organisation which journalists can find though the askCHARITY search.

Meesage Board

Our busy Message Board is a place for charities to discuss media-related issues. Once registered you can post messages, ask for advice, or simply eavesdrop on others’ conversations.

Media Directory

The Media Directory contains insider information about different media outlets to help charities better target their stories and press releases. It works like a Wikipedia, meaning charities can add and update information found in this section.

Blog

The askCHARITY Blog gives top tips and interesting information on charity-media relations. It also hosts posts from guest bloggers from across the sector.

There are currently 2,683 charities registered to askCHARITY and 1,832 journalists.

Founded by communications specialists working in the sector, CharityComms is for people in all areas of charity sector communications, including internal communications, publishing, media relations, marketing, new media, campaigning and public affairs, as well as reputation and crisis management.

Our mission is to:

• Provide a voice for the interest of not-for-profit communications both within individual organisations and within the sector

• Act as a catalyst for the development of new communication techniques

• Provide a platform for a debate on issues that affect charity communications

• Offer a forum for networking across the sector

• Ensure that good practice is shared among members

• Encourage continuing professional development (CPD) in order to raise communications standards

• Provide advice and guidelines to charity communicators

• Create benchmarks and standards for charity communicators

Charity communications are integral to each charity’s work for a better world. CharityComms aims to define the communications discipline within our sector and become a reputable body with responsibility for setting standards. Many other professions within the charity sector now have their own qualifications and professional development standards. We believe that these are needed for communicators in charities as well.
