Does an ethical career mean being low paid? Choosing an ethical career can sometimes mean you are paid less than the mainstream sector, but not always. Salaries vary greatly depending on what you want to do, so it’s very hard to generalise, but many ethical employers are realising that to attract and retain the very best people, they need to offer competitive salaries. If you are keen to reach the top pay scales, consider human rights law, becoming the Director of a non-profit or setting up your own green business. It’s also important to remember that jobs in the mainstream sector can sometimes be poorly paid and more crucially that money isn’t everything. Working for an employer whose values you really believe in will give you an enormous sense of satisfaction, achievement and purpose that no amount of pay can make up for!
