- Since joining ngo.media in 2007, Barney has managed projects for charities including BTCV, Drinkaware, The Stroke Association and WRVS. He has written regularly for the WWF website and YoungMinds magazine, and interviewed case studies for Rethink and the National Deaf Children's Society.
- Leads ngo.media's ethical business division. Before joining the company, Barney edited Business First, a monthly business magazine in Sussex, which he helped to set up.
- Diverse experience as a freelance writer, including a guidebook on British festivals, published in 2008. Has also written and directed plays at the Brighton and Arundel Festivals.

- Writer/Editor, ngo.media. Writing, copyediting, proofreading and project management for a range of publications and clients. Skills include writing news, features, reports, newsletters and web copy; interviewing case study subjects; editing jargon-heavy policy documents.
- Deputy editor, Business First. As part of a small editorial team, Barney was responsible for writing articles and advertorials for a variety of clients; subbing and proofreading the magazine; collating artwork; liaising with designers and overseeing the production process.
- Freelance writer/copyeditor. Writes for etc, a magazine for school-leavers, including a regular general knowledge column and features on social and environmental issues; also co-wrote their Apprenticeship Guides 2007 and 2008. Has written for a range of publications and websites; produced brochures for local music festivals; written press releases and web copy for businesses and the public sector; copyedited books for Summersdale Publishers.
